Wet Bar Reveal: A Peek at How It All Came Together
I thought you guys might like to see where I ended up with my decisions on this wet bar/kitchenette—and let me just say, I absolutely love how it turned out. It’s one of those spaces that just makes me smile every time I walk by. This little nook has gone through a lot of planning (and a few pivots), but I think it finally found its personality.
One of the biggest decisions I made was to scrap the backsplash I had originally planned. I know—gasp!—it felt like such a defining element at first. But sometimes, you get deep into a project and realize what looked great on Pinterest just isn’t vibing in your real-life space. So, I changed course, trusted my gut, and ended up going with something that felt a bit more “me.” And honestly? I’m so glad I did. The new look is cleaner, more timeless, and it lets the other elements in the space really shine.
Cabinet color is something I get asked about all the time—and I wish I had a fancy designer name to give you! But the truth is, we work with a cabinet guy who orders his stock from Korea. He has a curated selection of around 10 finishes, and this one was an instant favorite for me. So while I don’t have an exact color swatch or paint match for you, I can say that it’s a soft, neutral tone that plays beautifully with the rest of our home.
One of the most rewarding parts of this project was building and installing the floating shelves myself. I’d never tackled something like that before, but I wanted that custom, built-in look without the price tag. A few trips to the hardware store and a lot of measuring later, I got them up—and they feel solid and stylish. Right now, I’m still playing around with how to style them. I’m going for a mix of practical and pretty—glassware, maybe a few decorative bottles, and something green to bring a little life to the space. It’s a work in progress, but that’s half the fun.
In the end, what I love most about this wet bar is that it feels personal. It’s not just a pretty corner of the house—it’s a space I planned, adjusted, and even got my hands dirty building. Whether we’re using it for entertaining, mixing up a fun drink, or just grabbing a glass of water, it adds something special to our home.
So, thanks for following along on this little design journey. If you’re in the middle of a project yourself and second-guessing a decision—trust your instincts. Sometimes scrapping the original plan leads to something even better.
