Upcycled Drawer | Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer

Upcycled Drawer

Hello Amazing Friends! I’m back today sharing the makeover of a piece that has been in my garage for at least two years. I’m starting to sound like a broken record, right? I have been so good about working through my stash, and I am down to just a couple of furniture pieces, a bin of odds and ends, and this stack of goodies I pulled out from the depths during the big purge:

That drawer is what is up for a makeover today!

It came from a drop leaf table I found on Craig’s List. One of only two things I’ve ever bought from there. The table was selling for $25 which I thought was a steal, but when I got there to pick it up, it was in two pieces and needed serious repair. I didn’t know how to tell the seller I didn’t want it, so I brought it home.

Needless to say, I never repaired it, and I never bought another thing off of CL!

I did keep one of the top pieces and this lone drawer:

And here is what I did with it:

I have looked at this thing so many times trying to find a new purpose for it, and I finally did. After looking at it for the about the 100th time, it finally occurred to me that I could cut it, so before I thought about it too much, that’s what I did.

I had these jars that I found at the Target dollar spot a while back…

So I decided I would cut the drawer to fit them:

Yup I sure did cut that drawer right in two! I used my table saw. 🙂

Then I separated the pieces on the back end to get that back piece out:

Then I just used wood glue and my nailgun to put it back together.

The jars fit in it perfectly.

I used  Dixie Belle paint in Fluff for this one. It has some serious coverage with only two coats! Love that.

The drawer front hangs over in the front, so I needed something to hold the back side up…

I just added a little block of scrap wood…hey, it does the job!

This would also be cute on a vanity holding toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc, or for incoming mail!

That’s one less thing in that to-do pile! I’m actually going to need to go thrifting soon since I have hardly anything left…or better yet, yard saling!

Speaking of yard sales, on Thursday I’ll be sharing my favorite tips for hosting a successful yard sale:
