I’m reaching out today because I’m looking for suggestions for what to put against this wallpapered wall in my dining room.
Right now, I have this shelf thing (you can see it in the photo), but honestly, it was just something extra I had around — it wasn’t really picked with intention for the space. Now that the rest of the room is coming together, I realize I want something that feels more bold, stylish, and fitting for the vibe I’m trying to create.
The wallpaper itself is a real statement — it’s beautiful and eye-catching — so I want whatever I put in front of it to complement it, not feel like an afterthought. I’m looking for something that feels intentional, that adds to the overall design of the room, and that really holds its own against that stunning wall.
Here’s a little bit more about what I’m thinking:
-
I’d love to find a piece that’s bold but not overwhelming — something that adds presence without competing with the wallpaper.
-
I’m open to different styles: buffet tables, sideboards, bar carts, console tables, or even something a little more unique like a low bookshelf or art display.
-
Ideally, it would be functional too — storage is always a plus! But the main goal is to have something that looks like it was meant to be there.
-
I’m not afraid of color or texture, either. I’m actually kind of excited by the idea of playing off the wallpaper with something rich like a dark wood, a sleek black finish, or even a pop of a color that pulls from the wallpaper design.
A few other notes about the room:
-
It’s a dining room, but I’m not super formal about it. I want the space to feel welcoming, stylish, and a little bit fun.
-
The rest of the furniture in the room is neutral (think soft grays, whites, and woods), so this piece could really stand out if it’s the right one.
-
I’m planning to eventually add some art, plants, and maybe a fun light fixture too, so whatever goes against the wall should fit into that vision without feeling too busy.
I’d love to hear your ideas!
If you have suggestions for specific furniture styles, colors, or even DIY ideas, please share! And if you have a similar setup in your home, photos are very welcome — I’m a very visual person and would love to see how others have balanced bold wallpaper with furniture choices.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to help me brainstorm.
I’m so excited to find the perfect piece to finish off this part of the room and truly bring the whole dining space together!
Can’t wait to hear your ideas and get inspired!
