I could really use some advice! I recently painted my house this beautiful olive green color, and I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out. It feels fresh, earthy, and cozy — exactly the vibe I was going for. However, now that the main color is done, I’m realizing that the grey front (you can see it in the photo) just doesn’t match anymore. It’s bothering me every time I pull into the driveway, and I know I need to make a change.
I’ve been going back and forth in my head about what color would work best to tie everything together, and I would love to hear your suggestions!
Here’s what I’m currently considering:
-
Painting it black to match the steps:
Since my front steps are black, I thought it might make sense to carry that color up onto the front area as well. Black is timeless and would definitely add a nice, bold contrast against the olive green. Plus, it might make everything feel more cohesive and grounded. -
Painting it a darker green:
Another idea is to stick with the green family but go even deeper and richer. Maybe a dark forest green or something just a few shades darker than the house color? It could create a nice tonal look and keep the natural, earthy feel that I love. -
Or maybe something else entirely:
Should I consider a deep brown, a warm taupe, or even a very dark charcoal? I’m open to anything that would complement the olive green beautifully without feeling too harsh or too mismatched. I want it to feel intentional — like the whole house was designed that way from the start — not like I just slapped a patch of color on as an afterthought.
A few other details that might help:
-
The style of the house is simple and classic.
-
I’m trying to keep the overall look natural, welcoming, and a little bit modern without losing charm.
-
I’m also planning to add some landscaping soon (lots of greens and neutrals) to help soften the edges and tie everything together.
I’m definitely someone who loves a good transformation story, and I’m so excited to get this last piece figured out!
It’s amazing how much paint can change everything, but it’s also a little overwhelming trying to choose the “right” next step.
If you have any ideas, paint color recommendations, or even photos for inspiration, I would truly appreciate it!
Whether it’s black, a deeper green, or another gorgeous color I haven’t even thought of yet — I’m all ears.
Thanks so much for taking the time to help.
I can’t wait to hear what you would do!
